Temperament

  • Generally peaceful, can be territorial when breeding

  • Best kept in pairs or small groups

Minimum Tank Size

  • Temperature: 78–85°F (requires warmer water)

  • pH: 5.0–7.0 (prefers acidic water)

  • Hardness: Very soft to soft (0–8 dGH)

  • Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm (very sensitive)

  • Nitrate: <10 ppm

Diet

  • Carnivorous/omnivorous

  • Feed a varied diet:

    • High-quality small pellets or flakes

    • Frozen or live foods: brine shrimp, bloodworms

    • Small crustaceans and insect larvae
