Temperament

  • Generally peaceful, can be territorial when breeding

  • Best kept in groups of 4-6 or as mated pairs

Adult Size

  • 6 inches body length, 8+ inches tall including fins

Minimum Tank Size

  • 30 gallons for a pair, larger for groups

  • pH: 6.8–7.8

  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (5–15 dGH)

  • Nitrate: <20–30 ppm

Diet

  • Omnivorous

  • Feed a varied diet:

    • High-quality flakes or pellets

    • Frozen or live foods: bloodworms, brine shrimp

    • Vegetable matter and color-enhancing foods

  • Feed small amounts 1–2 times daily
