Christmas Favia Coral (often called "Christmas War Coral") is a type of Favia coral known for its festive coloration, typically featuring bright green and red hues that resemble holiday decorations. It’s a popular choice among reef aquarists for both its beauty and its relatively easy care.

Care Requirements:

Lighting:

• Moderate to Low Light

  • Too much intense lighting can bleach the coral.

  • Ideal under LEDs or T5s with blue spectrum for best coloration.

  • PAR range: 50–150

Flow:

• Moderate Flow

  • Avoid direct, strong current that could damage tissue.

  • Gentle, turbulent flow is best to prevent detritus buildup.

Feeding:

• Photosynthetic, but benefits from supplemental feeding:

  • Offer meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and reef roids 1–2 times per week.

  • Nighttime feeding is effective (when polyps extend).

Placement:

• Start on the substrate or lower rockwork and gradually move up if necessary.

• Keep away from aggressive corals—Favia have sweeper tentacles that can sting neighbors at night.
