Favia Frag
Christmas Favia Coral (often called "Christmas War Coral") is a type of Favia coral known for its festive coloration, typically featuring bright green and red hues that resemble holiday decorations. It’s a popular choice among reef aquarists for both its beauty and its relatively easy care.
Care Requirements:
Lighting:
-
Moderate to Low Light
-
Too much intense lighting can bleach the coral.
-
Ideal under LEDs or T5s with blue spectrum for best coloration.
-
PAR range: 50–150
-
Flow:
-
Moderate Flow
-
Avoid direct, strong current that could damage tissue.
-
Gentle, turbulent flow is best to prevent detritus buildup.
-
Feeding:
-
Photosynthetic, but benefits from supplemental feeding:
-
Offer meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and reef roids 1–2 times per week.
-
Nighttime feeding is effective (when polyps extend).
-
Placement:
-
Start on the substrate or lower rockwork and gradually move up if necessary.
-
Keep away from aggressive corals—Favia have sweeper tentacles that can sting neighbors at night.
